The Gerda Henkel Stiftung (Foundation) is a German grant-making organisation dedicated to promoting research in the historical humanities. Its funding programmes support research projects, research grants, and individual scholarships primarily in fields centered on history and related disciplines. The foundation’s General Research Grants provide support for research activities by covering costs such as personnel, travel, materials, and other project-related expenses. These grants are aimed at researchers who are actively engaged in the work they propose and are expected to publish the results of their research. Eligible research fields are focused on the historical humanities, including, but not limited to: archaeology, history of art, historical Islamic studies, history, history of science, history of law, prehistory and early history, and other historical sub-disciplines. ricerca2.unibs.it In addition to project grants, the foundation offers research scholarships for individual researchers, especially postdoctoral scholars, supporting independent research projects. These scholarships may include monthly stipends and allowances. Some specialised and thematic funding streams also exist, such as programmes on democracy, cultural heritage preservation, or scholars at risk, which may broaden the thematic scope. ResearchConnect Applications typically require a clearly defined research proposal, curriculum vitae, publication list, and detailed budget information and are submitted electronically through the foundation’s portal.
