This upcoming international funding call supports interdisciplinary and transformative research that uses disruptive technologies to address global societal challenges and advance the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The call opens in January 2026 (notices of intent) and closes on 3 November 2026 (full proposals). Funded projects may run for up to 36 months, starting no earlier than March 2027. The total funding available for Nordic partners is approximately €1.44 million, with the intention to support Nordic participation in 12 international projects. Overall coordination is managed by Canada’s New Frontiers in Research Fund (NFRF), with Nordic funding administered by NordForsk and national agencies, including the Research Council of Finland. Projects must be international, involving partners eligible for funding from at least three participating funding organisations, one of which must be Canadian. Proposals seeking NordForsk funding must include researchers from at least two different Nordic countries, and one Nordic researcher must serve as a co-Principal Investigator. Disruptive technology is broadly defined and may include novel innovations or new applications of existing technologies that produce transformative societal or economic impact. A NordForsk webinar for Nordic applicants will take place on 3 December at 10:00 CET to provide further guidance.
