Leipzig University is seeking 14 Doctoral Researchers (m/f/d/x) to join the DFG Research Training Group ECO-N, an interdisciplinary research initiative examining the sustainable use and conservation of natural commons such as forests, soils, urban air, and regional climate. These positions are offered across Economics, Meteorology, and Integrative Biodiversity Research, and provide an exceptional opportunity to pursue doctoral studies embedded within an internationally networked research community.
Funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), ECO-N brings together researchers from Leipzig University’s Faculties of Economics & Management Science, Life Sciences, and Physics & Earth System Sciences, as well as leading non-university research institutes including TROPOS, UFZ, and iDiv. Doctoral researchers will benefit from a structured training programme, interdisciplinary supervision, and extensive opportunities for professional development including international conferences, retreats, and research stays.
Key duties
- Conduct quantitative research on sustainable use of natural commons within an interdisciplinary environment
- Prepare and publish scientific papers; present research at national and international conferences
- Participate in disciplinary doctoral programmes and ECO-N advanced training modules
- Contribute to seminars, synthesis activities, and collaborative research within ECO-N
About you
- Master’s degree (completed by appointment) in Economics, Meteorology, Biology or a related field
- Strong quantitative research skills (e.g., statistics, econometrics, modelling)
- High motivation for interdisciplinary collaboration and sustainability-focused research
- Excellent English communication skills; international mindset and team orientation
