Air Conditioning Mech II (Night)

Texas State University is seeking a skilled Air Conditioning Mechanic II (Night Shift) to support reliable and efficient heating, ventilation, and air conditioning across campus buildings. As part of the Facilities Operations team, this role ensures indoor environmental comfort and system dependability during evening and late-night hours when continuous oversight is essential to maintaining campus operations.

Working from 3:00 PM to 12:00 AM, Monday through Friday, the Air Conditioning Mechanic II performs diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance on HVAC and refrigeration systems. Responsibilities include inspecting building equipment, monitoring operational performance, identifying and addressing issues, and reporting equipment needs or system faults to supervisory staff. The role works with pneumatic and electric controls; services chill water valves, electric motors, compressors, and pumps; and installs and repairs equipment such as ductwork, piping, and refrigeration components. Additional duties include troubleshooting ice machines and water fountains, conducting refrigerant recovery, and assisting with chiller overhauls and repairs.

The successful candidate will apply mechanical knowledge, read schematics, perform basic calculations, and operate specialized industry tools safely and effectively. Accurate real-time logging of completed work using university work order software is required. The position also supports after-hours issue resolution and participates in on-call rotations as needed. A valid Texas driver’s license and good driving record are required.

Applicants must hold EPA Section 608 Certification or obtain it within 60 days of hire. Three years of HVAC experience and familiarity with higher education or government environments are preferred.
