Assistant Professor (Associate Senior Lecturer) with specialization in Cognitive Robotics

Lund University is seeking an Assistant Professor in Cognitive Robotics / Neurorobotics / Cognitive Science with Computational Focus, to join the Cognitive Robotics Lab at the Department of Philosophy. The research environment develops theoretical and technological frameworks for modelling cognitive processes with a neuroscientific basis, implemented and tested using humanoid robots such as Epi. Research areas include perception, cognitive development, learning, memory, motor control, spatial navigation, and computational models of cognition.

This four-year, research-focused position offers a pathway toward academic advancement. During the appointment, you will receive pedagogical training and have the opportunity to apply for promotion to Senior Lecturer in the fourth year, contingent on demonstrated merit and research development.

Core responsibilities include:

  • Conducting high-quality interdisciplinary research combining cognitive science, robotics, and computational neuroscience.
  • Supervising doctoral students and contributing to teaching as needed.
  • Participating in activities within eSSENCE – The e-Science Collaboration, supporting e-science research across Lund University, Uppsala University, and Umeå University.
  • Contributing to the development of cross-faculty interdisciplinary training in cognitive robotics and neurorobotics.
  • Advancing simulation and control methods for humanoid robots within the robotics lab’s research programme.

Required qualifications:

  • PhD in cognitive science with relevance to neuroinformatics, cognitive modelling, neurorobotics, or related fields, normally obtained within the last seven years.
  • Documented research experience in areas aligned with the position.
  • Very good knowledge of academic English.
  • Research plan outlining intended work during the appointment.

Additional valued experience:

  • Multidisciplinary research across cognitive science, robotics, and e-science.
  • Software development, mathematics, robot construction, and course development.
  • Proven success in securing external research funding.

Foreign applicants without Swedish or Scandinavian language skills will receive support to reach proficiency necessary for teaching and departmental communication.
