Assistant Professor of Instruction – Department of Agricultural Sciences

San Marcos, United States
Closing Date: Open until filled

Texas State University invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor of Instruction in the Department of Agricultural Sciences, beginning January 16, 2026. This non-tenure-line teaching-focused role offers an exciting opportunity for a broad-based agricultural sciences educator who enjoys teaching across multiple sub-disciplines and supporting student development in an applied, hands-on academic environment.

The successful candidate will contribute to a department that supports diverse undergraduate and graduate programs in agriculture and prepares students for leadership in farming, agribusiness, livestock management, agricultural technology, and environmental stewardship. In this generalist position, the faculty member may teach courses across at least two of the following areas: agribusiness; agricultural mechanics/agricultural education; animal science; and plant or soil sciences. Candidates who thrive in interdisciplinary teaching, enjoy working with students from varied academic and professional pathways, and bring flexibility to the curriculum will be well suited for this role.

Responsibilities include delivering high-quality instruction in face-to-face and potentially hybrid settings, advising and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, and contributing to departmental service and program initiatives. The department values student-centered teaching practices that support inclusive learning, hands-on problem-solving, and applied agricultural skills. Experience with curriculum development, supervising student research or applied projects, and integrating contemporary agricultural issues—such as sustainability, ag-tech innovation, and integrated production systems—is welcomed.

Applicants must hold a PhD in Agricultural Sciences or a closely related field, demonstrate effective written and oral communication, and show the potential to teach successfully in at least two of the recognized agricultural subfields. Prior undergraduate teaching experience, evidence of curriculum development, and interdisciplinary collaboration are preferred.

Texas State University provides a vibrant academic setting within the fast-growing Austin–San Antonio corridor, offering collaborative opportunities, strong student engagement, and institutional support for innovative teaching.
