- Full-time financial operations role within the Department of Anesthesiology at Michigan Medicine.

- Supports both academic and hospital departmental financial activities.
- Works closely with faculty, fellows, supervisors, Shared Services, and University Procurement.
- Financial Review & Compliance
- Review, analyze, and pre-approve departmental expense reports, including faculty, student, and non-University employee travel expenses.
- Ensure compliance with University, Medical School, and departmental financial policies and procedures.
- Process invoices, journal entries, PeoplePay payments, and other financial transactions accurately and on time.
- Faculty & Educational Expense Management
- Track faculty and fellow educational expenses and maintain databases for individual educational allowance balances.
- Prepare and submit annual summaries of Continuing Medical Education (CME) expenses to the Medical School.
- Financial Systems Expertise
- Serve as the subject matter expert on University financial systems, including expense reporting, procurement, reconciliation, and related workflows.
- Act as the primary departmental contact for Shared Services case management.
- Training & Departmental Support
- Provide hands-on training and guidance to supervisors and staff on routine financial processes such as requisitions, P-card reconciliation, and expense report preparation.
- Develop, update, and maintain financial training materials for staff with finance-related responsibilities.
- Communicate policy updates and procedural changes to department staff and division managers.
- Procurement & Vendor Management
- Procure goods and services required for departmental operations.
- Obtain, manage, and renew purchase contracts.
- Collaborate closely with the University’s Procurement group to ensure cost-effective and compliant purchasing.
- Required Qualifications
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain financial concepts to individuals with varying levels of expertise.
- Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, and time management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across all organizational levels.
- Advanced Excel skills for financial tracking, reporting, and analysis.
- Education & Experience
- Intermediate Level: Bachelor’s degree and 2–3 years of accounting or finance experience (or equivalent combination).
- Senior Level: Bachelor’s degree and 3–5 years of accounting or finance experience (or equivalent combination).
- Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in healthcare, higher education, or an academic medical center.
- Familiarity with University policies and M-Pathways Financial systems.
