The University of Iowa School of Art, Art History, and Design invites applications for the Grant Wood Fellowship in Printmaking for the 2026–2027 academic year. Named in honor of renowned American artist Grant Wood, this prestigious fellowship offers an emerging or established printmaker the opportunity to deepen their creative practice while contributing to a leading academic printmaking program.
The successful fellow will hold the title Grant Wood Visiting Assistant Professor in Printmaking, joining a vibrant community of artists, scholars, and students. With access to dedicated studio space and furnished housing provided by the university, the fellow will have the time, tools, and support needed to advance their own creative research while engaging with students through teaching and public programming.
Key responsibilities include:
- Teaching one printmaking course per semester, at an introductory or advanced level depending on expertise and program needs
- Delivering a public lecture on artistic practice
- Participating in community engagement activities, such as workshops or discussions with local arts organizations
- Presenting work in a solo or shared exhibition at the conclusion of the fellowship year
- Contributing to the intellectual and creative life of the School of Art, Art History, and Design
Required qualifications:
- MFA in Printmaking (or equivalent professional experience) by the start of the fellowship
- Evidence of a national exhibition record
- University-level teaching experience
- Demonstrated ability to contribute meaningfully to the evolving needs of undergraduate and graduate printmaking education
Preferred qualifications:
- Familiarity with diverse printmaking methods, conceptual approaches, and contemporary theoretical frameworks
