MAX IV, one of the world’s brightest synchrotron radiation facilities, is seeking a Laser Safety Officer to ensure the safe operation of diverse laser systems used in research and engineering across the facility. As part of the General Safety Team, you will provide specialist expertise in laser safety, guiding design, procurement, and implementation of laser-based equipment and experimental setups.
The role involves developing and maintaining laser safety standards, conducting safety and risk assessments, managing compliance with international and Swedish regulations, and supporting teams across MAX IV in laser-related projects. Your work will also include leading safety audits, maintaining an up-to-date inventory of laser systems, coordinating a laser safety working group, and validating safety functionality for new or modified systems.
Ideal candidates bring extensive hands-on experience with lasers in scientific or industrial environments, strong knowledge of IEC 60825 and related standards, and the ability to manage classification and compliance processes. A relevant MSc is considered a strong merit, along with familiarity with Swedish regulatory requirements, experience in risk assessment tools, and background in complex research or industrial infrastructures.
