Open Rank Tenure Line Faculty in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Data Science

San Marcos, United States
Closed (Jan 15, 2026)

Texas State University’s Ingram School of Engineering invites applications for an open-rank, tenure-line faculty position in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Data Science, beginning Fall 2026. The position directly supports the university’s Run to R1 strategic initiative to elevate Texas State to Research-1 status, offering a strong institutional environment for impactful research, collaboration, and external funding success.

The successful candidate will strengthen the School’s research capabilities in AI-driven and data-intensive engineering systems while contributing to undergraduate and graduate education. Faculty responsibilities include maintaining an active, externally funded research program; publishing impactful work; mentoring students; teaching in ABET-accredited programs; building partnerships with government, industry, and national laboratories; and participating in service and shared governance.

Candidates should demonstrate expertise in one or more areas such as AI-enabled mechanical and manufacturing systems, predictive maintenance, digital twins, robotics, computer vision, smart sensing, sustainable supply chains, wireless communication and edge computing, or data-driven optimization for emerging technologies. Faculty will have access to advanced research facilities and collaborative centers, including the Infrastructure Research Laboratory, Ingram Makerspace, Center for Analytics and Data Science, and NSF CREST semiconductor research initiatives.

Located along the Austin–San Antonio innovation corridor, Texas State provides strategic proximity to major technology hubs, fostering industry-academic collaboration, workforce development, and research translation. All ranks are welcome to apply, with each level evaluated based on evidence of research productivity, funding potential or success, graduate and undergraduate teaching engagement, academic leadership, and record of student mentoring.

This position represents an opportunity to contribute to a rapidly growing Engineering School and support Texas State University’s ambition to emerge as a national leader in high-impact AI and data-driven technologies.
