Open Rank Tenure-Line Faculty in Energy

The Ingram School of Engineering at Texas State University invites applications for a tenure-track, open-rank faculty position in Energy Engineering, contributing to the university’s strategic “Run to R1” initiative to achieve Very High Research Activity status. This role offers an exceptional opportunity to shape a research program within one of Texas State’s priority areas while working alongside faculty committed to innovation, interdisciplinary collaboration, and student-centered academic excellence.

The successful candidate will expand the school’s research capabilities in Energy, focusing on areas such as advanced energy storage and materials, resilient power systems, energy-efficient data centers, net-zero manufacturing pathways, emerging energy technologies, transportation electrification, and sustainable energy alignment with national objectives. Cross-disciplinary collaboration is strongly encouraged, particularly with colleagues across engineering disciplines, national labs, and corporate partners, leveraging Texas State’s proximity to the Austin–San Antonio technology corridor.

The faculty member will teach undergraduate and graduate courses within ABET-accredited programs, supervise student research, and contribute to program development aligned with innovation, commercialization, and modern engineering needs. Engagement in service, shared governance, and mentoring is expected, with opportunities to participate in strategic partnerships supporting student success and research translation.

Texas State provides extensive research infrastructure—such as the Infrastructure Research Laboratory, Ingram Makerspace prototyping facility, the NSF CREST semiconductor research center, and university-wide centers including the Meadows Center for Water and the Environment and Center for Analytics and Data Science—offering a rich ecosystem for impactful scholarship and external funding development.

Required Qualifications

Requirements vary by rank; in general, candidates must demonstrate:

  • PhD in Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing Engineering, or related discipline
  • Research excellence in at least one listed energy research area
  • Evidence or strong potential for external funding
  • Teaching excellence in undergraduate and graduate engineering programs
  • Strong written and oral communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Interdisciplinary collaboration experience
  • Industry or postdoctoral experience
  • Experience with ABET accreditation, national labs, federal agencies, patents, or technology transfer (for senior ranks)
