PhD OR Postdoctorate Researcher, Materials Accelaration Platform for Novel Battery chemistries

VTT, one of Europe’s leading applied research organisations, is seeking a PhD Researcher (4-year fixed term) or a Postdoctoral Researcher (2-year fixed term, with possible extension) to join its Integrated Computational Materials Engineering team in Espoo, Finland. This position focuses on developing a Materials Acceleration Platform (MAP) for novel battery chemistries, combining advanced modelling, automation, and data-driven methods to accelerate materials discovery. The successful candidate will work in the Knowledge Driven Design research area, contributing to machine-learned interatomic potentials for predictive synthesis of battery cathode materials. The role integrates quantum and multiscale modelling, density functional theory, tight-binding methods, AI, and analytics within VTT’s ProperTune ICME framework. Research outcomes aim to significantly reduce experimental costs and shorten time-to-market for high-performance materials. The position offers close collaboration with academia and industry, access to excellent research infrastructure, and opportunities to publish in high-impact journals and present at international conferences.
