Lund University, repeatedly ranked among the world’s top academic institutions, is seeking an experienced and research-active Professor of Social Work to join the School of Social Work. Established within Lund University since 1977, the School has a long history of teaching and research addressing social problems, welfare policy, vulnerable groups, and human services. With approximately 1,200 students across Lund and Helsingborg campuses, the School offers extensive undergraduate, advanced, and doctoral education and maintains a strong international research presence.
The successful candidate will contribute to high-quality research, teaching, and supervision at all levels. Key expectations include actively seeking research funding, leading research environments, supervising doctoral candidates, teaching in Swedish and English, collaborating within and beyond the faculty, and disseminating research to academic and non-academic audiences. The role requires regular on-site presence and engagement in daily academic life at the School.
Applicants must demonstrate internationally recognized scientific achievements significantly exceeding the docent level, along with documented pedagogical competence, including experience supervising at least one doctoral student to completion. Proven research leadership, publication in recognized channels, competitive grant success, and the ability to collaborate across national and international networks are essential. Strong pedagogical skills, administrative competence, and effective communication are also required. Candidates who are not yet proficient in Swedish are expected to acquire sufficient language skills within two years to teach and participate in departmental leadership and administration.
Research reinforcing existing strengths—particularly regarding children, young people, families, and social vulnerability—is especially welcome. Equal weight is placed on assessing scientific and pedagogical excellence.
Lund University offers a full-time, permanent professor position with government-level benefits, generous leave, and a strong occupational pension scheme. Start date is by agreement. Applications must follow the Academic Qualifications Portfolio format of the Faculty of Social Sciences and be submitted via the Varbi recruitment system.
