The Institute for Social Research (ISR) at the University of Michigan invites applications for a Research Assistant Professor in the Survey Research Center (SRC), within the Survey Methodology Program (SMP). ISR is the world’s largest academic social science survey and research organization and has been a global leader in survey-based research and methodological innovation for nearly 80 years.

The successful candidate will contribute to interdisciplinary research, graduate education, and externally funded projects in a highly collaborative academic environment.
Key responsibilities and opportunities include:

Advising and mentoring graduate students in the Michigan Program in Survey and Data Science (MPSDS) at both Master’s and PhD levels.

Teaching and contributing to curriculum development within MPSDS.

Pursuing an independent, externally funded research agenda aligned with survey methodology and data science.

Developing and applying innovative methods for integrating non-traditional data sources, including social media, administrative data, biosocial data, sensor data, and contextual data.

Applying artificial intelligence and emerging technologies to survey research and broader social science methodologies.

Providing technical guidance and methodological expertise to Survey Research Operations (SRO).

Collaborating with interdisciplinary research teams across the University of Michigan and with external partners nationally and internationally.
Required qualifications:

Doctoral degree in a quantitative social science or related field, such as survey and data science, statistics, computational social science, data science, information science, computer science, sociology, psychology, or related disciplines.

Evidence of a coherent research agenda and strong scientific interest in emerging technologies and methodological innovation.

Experience in teaching, training, or mentoring students or researchers.

Strong written and oral communication skills.
Preferred qualifications:

Record of scholarship focused on AI or emerging technologies in social science research.

Experience securing and managing externally funded research projects.
