Istituto Svizzero invites applications for its Residency Programmes 2026/2027 in Rome, Milan, and Palermo, designed for emerging academic researchers and artists who aim to contribute to the future of art, science, and innovation. The residencies connect Switzerland’s academic and artistic communities with Italian cultural environments through a transdisciplinary programme combining research, creation, collaboration, and professional development.
The call is open to Swiss citizens, permanent residents in Switzerland, or individuals with strong ties to Switzerland’s academic or artistic ecosystem. Residencies support personal research projects while fostering dialogue through shared events, study trips, workshops, and curated interdisciplinary activities.
Residency categories include (selection):
- Roma Calling – ten-month residencies for researchers and artists (September–July) and shorter five-month research stays.
- Milano Calling – cross-disciplinary research and artistic development.
- Palermo Calling – including programmes focused on Curatorial Practice and Art & Science.
- ON FORESTS / ON AMAZONIAN FORESTS – thematic residencies addressing forest environments, ecology, and knowledge exchange.
- Senior Fellowship & Summer Schools – advanced short-term and collaborative research formats.
Key expectations and opportunities for academic researchers:
- Develop and pursue an individual research project that benefits from residency in Rome, Milan, or Palermo.

- Swiss citizens, Swiss permanent residents, or individuals with strong academic/artistic ties to Switzerland.
- Researchers at doctoral, postdoctoral, or equivalent early-career stage across social sciences, humanities, natural sciences, and related fields.
- Ability to present a research project requiring or benefiting from residency and capable of integrating into interdisciplinary exchange.
