Senior Lecturer in Environmental Science with specialisation in Strategic Environmental and Sustainability Work

Lund University’s Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences (MGeo) is seeking a Senior Lecturer in Environmental Science with specialization in strategic environmental and sustainability work, focusing on the sustainable future use and management of land and natural resources. MGeo conducts broad, interdisciplinary research into environmental change, climate, natural systems, and human–environment interactions using innovative analytical, modeling, and technological approaches.

In this permanent faculty role, you will combine teaching (≈30%), research (≥40%), and academic service, with the opportunity to shape the development of environmental science education and research at Lund University. The position also supports research growth with the possibility of a startup package equivalent to a fully funded PhD position.

Main duties include:

  • Designing and delivering teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels, including degree project and doctoral supervision.
  • Conducting independent, high-quality research in strategic sustainability work and environmental management.
  • Leading pedagogical development and course innovation, particularly within the international Master’s programme in Environmental Science launching in 2027.
  • Strengthening external collaborations with government agencies, NGOs, industry, and academic partners.
  • Actively pursuing external funding to support research initiatives and student training.
  • Contributing to departmental responsibilities, including programme development and committee participation.

Required qualifications:

  • PhD in environmental science or an equivalent field.
  • Documented excellence in environmental science research and pedagogical experience, including course coordination and doctoral supervision.
  • Proven ability to secure competitive national and/or international research funding.
  • Strong written and spoken English.

Additional valued experience:

  • Expertise in environmental policy areas such as climate, energy, forestry, materials, food production, or pollutants.
  • Experience with decision support tools, environmental management applications, and cross-sector collaboration.
  • Ability to integrate natural and social science approaches and to teach in Swedish within a reasonable timeframe.

This is a full-time, permanent academic appointment, starting 15 August 2026 or by agreement. Equal weight is given to research and teaching excellence.
