Support and Wellbeing Engagement Officer (Part-Time, Maternity Cover, Term-Time, Internal Only)

UK — Remote, United Kingdom
Closed (Jan 19, 2026)

The University of Nottingham is seeking a committed and motivated Support and Wellbeing Engagement Officer to join its Support & Wellbeing Team on a part-time, term-time, maternity-cover contract. This internal vacancy forms part of the Student and Campus Life Division and plays an essential role in identifying and supporting students who are experiencing prolonged non-engagement with their studies and may be facing significant wellbeing challenges.

Working within the Engagement Team, and reporting to the Engagement and Student Wellbeing Systems Manager, the postholder will engage with students flagged by the attendance and engagement monitoring system as having reached total non-engagement. The role blends investigative, administrative, and advisory responsibilities to ensure students receive timely support that helps them re-engage with university life where possible.

Key responsibilities and expectations include:

  • Interpreting large datasets to identify disengaged students and determine appropriate interventions.

  • Investigating student circumstances through cross-referencing records across multiple university systems and information sources.

  • Initiating and maintaining multi-channel communication with students and university colleagues, including email, telephone, SMS, instant messaging, video calls, letters, and occasional in-person meetings.

  • Logging and tracking communication attempts, ensuring follow-ups are completed within established workflows and timelines.

  • Providing sensitive and practical wellbeing guidance once contact is established, offering emotional support and signposting to specialist internal and external services.

  • Helping students understand university processes and academic policies, outlining their options and encouraging meaningful steps toward re-engagement.

  • Escalating urgent concerns to appropriate services when safeguarding, risk, or wellbeing concerns are identified.

  • Maintaining constructive working relationships across schools, departments, and professional services teams to ensure coordinated student support.

  • Promoting wellbeing processes to university colleagues through written communications, presentations, updates, and collaborative networks.

About the successful candidate:
You will have strong organisational skills, sound judgment under pressure, and the ability to communicate with sensitivity and diplomacy. Experience working with large datasets and complex administrative processes is essential, alongside the ability to support students presenting with personal or wellbeing difficulties. A proactive approach, flexibility, and a commitment to high-quality student service are key.

Working pattern and terms:
This role is 0.5 FTE delivered through 26 hours per week over a minimum of four days, worked during 30.6 weeks of the year (term-time only). The post is fixed-term until 10 January 2027 to cover maternity leave. One day per week of home working may be possible by agreement. Job-share requests may be considered.
